Stay active this winter with these tips for working out in cold weather.
The cold shouldn 't freeze over your fitness goals, but it might cool down your enthusiasm for working out. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to make exercising during the winter months not just possible, but safe and fun!
Use these tips for working out in cold weather to make sure the winter doesn 't put your healthy living goals on ice.
- Layer Up! As you exercise, your body temperature will heat up. As a result, you won 't need as much warm clothing at the end of your workout as you did in the beginning. Make it easy to adjust as your body temperature changes by dressing in plenty of layers.
- Watch The Weather. The last thing you want is to get caught out in a blizzard. Check the weather before you head out for your exercise, and keep an eye on the sky as you go. If you see dark clouds rolling it, keep your activity close to home.
- Mind Your Skin. The sun reflecting off the snow increases your change for sunburn, so wear sunscreen when you work out outdoors. Also, try to do half of your workout with the wind at your back to avoid windburn.
- Hydrate! It 's easier to remember to drink water when the weather 's hot, but it 's equally important in the winter. Hot tea is a great way to get fluids and beat the cold!
